The Tim Kliphuis Quartet
‘The Art of Improvisation’
Dutchman Tim Kliphuis ranks among the world's finest jazz violinists. He has
often been named the successor of Stéphane Grappelli, taking his legacy into the 21st Century by infusing
Gypsy Swing with Folk and Classical music. Tim’s spirit and style are reminiscent of the late, great jazz
fiddler: virtuoso playing with a great love for melody. A violinist classically trained at the Amsterdam Conservatoire, Tim’s first
international recognition came when he joined Belgian gypsy guitarist Fapy Lafertin in 1999. Tim is already well known to many UK jazz audiences through regular
appearances at major festivals.

Dave Newton is one of the leading international jazz pianists. His
career took off in the eighties when he recorded with Buddy DeFranco, Martin Taylor and Alan Barnes. Later on,
he became known as the ideal accompanist leading to collaborations with famous vocalists including Annie Ross,
Marion Montgomery, Carol Kidd and most notably a ten-year association with Stacey Kent. David’s compositions can
be heard in American TV movies and several Alan Ayckbourn theatre productions. He is a seven-time winner of the
British Jazz awards and a Fellow of Leeds College of Music.
Len Skeat (bass) first started out with pianist Eddie Thomson and
then joined the Heath Band. This led to being a Ronnie Scott’s 'All Star' and concerts with greats like Ben
Webster, Billy Eckstein and Mel Tormé. Len was in Stéphane Grappelli’s band in the 1970s, and later on was Peggy
Lee’s favourite bassist. He still works with all the top names in American jazz.
Colin Oxley (guitar) tours and records
internationally, including Japan. He has worked with John Bunch, Houston Person, Warren Vache, Scott Hamilton
and all Britain’s top jazz players. He was a long standing member of Stacey Kent’s band and is currently in the
award-winning Back to Basie Orchestra.
